Maty Sall is a French-Senegalese, Paris-born, New York City based curator & cultural strategist.

Sall’s early exposure to diverse cultural discourses shaped the visual language and curatorial sensibility that guide her practice. Foundational experiences such as Marina Abramović’s MoMA retrospective and Ousmane Sow’s installation on the Pont des Arts sparked her commitment to championing bold, conceptually driven, and emotionally resonant practices.

Informed by her international art market expertise and sensitivity for beauty, Sall affirms the global impact of contemporary African art. By showcasing the depth of work from both established and emerging African artists, she shines a light on limitless cultural diversity and complexity. Her work demonstrates that the global art conversation is not complete without a chorus of voices from Africa.

After studying Fine Art and Art History at the Sorbonne, Sall moved to New York, completing her BFA at FIT. She began her career at Rosenfeld Gallery, rising to Assistant Director and working in the secondary market with major collectors and institutions. She then became Director of Paul Nicklen Gallery, where she collaborated with National Geographic photographers and institutions such as the UN and WWF.

In 2019, Sall joined Jason Jacques Gallery, leading exhibitions and international fair presentations at TEFAF, FOG, and Design Miami/. She directed notable projects such as Kim Simonsson’s large-scale installation with Urban Umbrella and curated SMOKE, the Chelsea space’s inaugural exhibition benefiting the Last Prisoner Project.

In 2023, she became Director at Fridman Gallery, where she helped reshape the program by supporting the roster and bringing in new voices. Since 2024, Sall has transitioned to independent curatorial projects through her platform Rooster Lion, producing cross-border collaborations with galleries like Southern Guild LA and Galerie Carole Kvasnevski Paris/NY. Her practice extends to organizing artist talks and performances that foster cultural and intellectual exchange. Recent highlights include curating Gallery 495’s program for Upstate Art Weekend 2025—featured by Hyperallergic as a must-see exhibition—and serving as a juror for Bolster Arts residencies, championing the next generation of creative voices.
